A Few Facts About Marion, Iowa

Marion is a community of about 33,000 residents in Linn County just northeast of the city limits of Cedar Rapids.  This suburban neighborhood has a hometown feel with the convenience of the Uptown Marion area and Pucker Street District nearby to enjoy boutiques, fine dining, and entertainment.  The middle-class residents enjoy affordable housing with an estimated median house or condo value of $170,250 in 2010. Marion has been recognized as the #1 safest community in Iowa among cities over 10,000 in population for the 9th year in a row. 

Marion was first settled in 1838 and named after General Francis Marion, the highly regarded American Revolutionary War hero, know as the "Swamp Fox" for his guerilla style tactics in the swamps of South Carolina.  In 1839, the community was centered from its inception around its City Square Park which became the centerpoint of the railroad town during the late 1800s and early 1900s and remains a landmark of activity today.

With 2 school districts, 16 city parks, hiking trails, and the Lowe Parks Arts and Environment Center, Marion continues to grow offering a diverse array of culture, education, and activity.
